Fruit Would Slow Cancer Growth
In a study at the University of Hong Kong, some fruits such as mangoes could help slow the development of certain cancers.
According to the study published in the journal Cancer Research, lupeol, a compound that exists in the mango, grapes and strawberries, have an effective action to eliminate and control the growth of cancer cells in the head and neck.
The experiment was based on the administration of lupeol mice with cancer cells in head and neck. This component would act on a protein NFkB, a protein involved in repair and growth of both normal cells and cancer cells. Lupeol thus suppress the growth and migration of cancer cells.
They also underlined the fact that substance qe produced almost no unwanted side effects as other chemotherapies, such as weight loss.
The objectives for the future raises the possibility of conducting clinical trials in humans, as this protein (NFKB) on lupeol acts, would be activated in human tumors such as prostate and liver.
