Proteins
The most important functions of proteins in the body are to support growth and tissue repair. Many people feel athletes need a diet rich in protein that helps muscle development, although scientists have shown repeatedly that this is not true and that it is only a myth.
Only vigorous physical activity and exercise will promote changes in the muscles. The athletes, including bodybuilders, need to increase your calorie intake only in small quantities and these increases are achieved with ease, simply consuming more total calories (eating more).
Americans already eat almost twice as much protein as they need, so protein needs for muscle development are being met before the start of vigorous physical activity. Excess protein is used as energy and can be stored as body fat.
Amino acid supplements and high intake of protein are not recommended because they can promote calcium loss and strain on the kidneys, which must remove the excess nitrogen protein provides.
