Training Cardio Before Strength Training?
The training benefits of cardio before strength training
If you’re confused between what to choose to train first, strength training or cardio training, will certainly not alone. Even experts have different opinions on the subject, with some recommendations to do cardio workout before the strength training as a way to warm up for strength training. Others suggest the opposite, stating that the cardio workout can tire your muscles, causing a strength training less effective.
So what is the correct answer? There is really only one correct answer, and ultimately will be based on your goals. However, if your goal is to lose weight, cardio workout before the strength training may be the best option because:
• Maximizes expense (“burn”) calories – When performing cardio training and strength training in the same session, not only helps burn more calories, but also maximizes the overall calorie expenditure of your workout, since the cardio workout uses more calories than strength training.
• Increase your caloric intake after exercise – first performing cardio training maximizes your oxygen consumption after the exercise, ie, the amount of calories that your body continues to burn after the workout. One study (3) found that spending was higher after training when met running / strength training. They also concluded that the race was also more taxing on the body, after strength training.
